Over the weekend

We had a wonderful and relaxing family weekend. The 4th of July was spent running errands and ended by playing it safe at home. No fireworks this year. We also attended a wedding on the 4th. Off Tangent Vent:: I don't get why people choose to have their wedding on holidays. Perhaps, it's a tactic to remember your anniversary every year or something -- but, being a wedding photographer, I honestly think it's a little distracting to those you invite to the wedding, as I am sure they would rather be relaxing on the holiday than having to fulfill any family obligations, like attending a wedding (or funeral, for all that matters). I, for one, would never accept a wedding gig on a holiday, unless I could negotiate overtime pay or extra incentives. Family time is pretty precious to me and I want to be able to indulge in any extra time given to me to spend with my family.

The Hmong community had their annual sports tournament at McMurray Field in St. Paul -- which I have no clue how it went because Doua and I haven't attended it for the past three years (but I doubt tjat we missed anything spectacular about it, it's the same old game every year and is sooo 1995). Instead, we decided to have a picnic at Carver Lake. What a perfect day to have a picnic. 85 degrees and sunny with a dry atmosphere. It was so nice to be able to relax, grill and hang with the family. The kids went swimming and we pretty much chilled all day at the pavilion. My brother, Vilay, came up from Arkansas with his family. It was good to see them again. Chloe loves that she has so many cousins.

Sunday was humid and hot. We spent the morning cleaning up around the house (I have this sudden burst of energy, where I feel like i have to get the place in shape for Logan). Doua had a rough morning from the night before (he didn't wake up until 3pm and I was pretty mad at him -- to spite him, I kept waking him up to help me clean and run errands, and I'll just leave it at that). We then went out for ice cream in the afternoon at Sebastian Joe's, then spent two good hours hanging out at the Walker Sculpture Garden as I had a photoshoot. Chloe looked especially glowy on Sunday, with her relaxed hair and chocolate-ice-cream-stained white dress -- I snapped some photos of her (will post later). We ended the weekend with dinner at Khoua and Chris'.
